Birth Circle of Kirksville is a group of knowledgeable women who offer emotional and informational support to mothers before and after birth. We also advocate for
informed choices in maternity care, gentle births, and healthy physical and emotional birth outcomes. Birth Circle of Kirksville serves a ten county area, including Adair, Macon, Schuyler, Shelby, Sullivan, Linn, Putnam, Knox, Randolph, and
Scotland counties.
We host monthly meetings for expectant families the third Saturday of every month at 10:15 at the Catholic Parish Center. All area moms are invited to attend. These meetings
focus on providing information about a specific topic and offering emotional support and encouragement. Please see our Monthly Meeting page for more information.
In 2008, Birth Circle expanded our focus to include advocacy for best practices in maternity care. We were awarded a grant from Lamaze International and used the money to fund our Transparency Project.
These efforts are conducted separately from our monthly meetings.
In 2009, Birth Circle plans to work with local maternity care providers to distribute information about Postpartum Depression and offer more support to new
families. We also hope to work with the local hospital to provide additional training on non-pharmacological pain relief methods. We hope to train a childbirth educator and to begin offering
independent childbirth classes.

Birth Circle can help organize your Mother's Blessing,
a celebration of birth which provides support and affirmation to expectant mothers.
We welcome mothers with all different expectations and plans for their birth. Our goal is to
provide a supportive community for each and every mother during pregnancy, birth, and the early postpartum time.
